Calaveras Alert Emergency Notification program

CALAVERAS ALERT Emergency Notification Program provides a number of ways in which Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services (OES) may contact the community in the event of an emergency such as: evacuations due to wildfires, floods, urgent law enforcement operations, urgent public health issues, other issues of high importance to quickly communicate to the public. Calaveras County OES has partnered with Everbridge to alert residents and businesses by telephone, cell phone, text message, email and social media when there is a threat to the health or safety of Calaveras County residents.

Does Calaveras Alert already have my telephone number, or do I need to sign up to receive Calaveras Alert notifications?

The CALAVERAS ALERT database contains landline telephone information received from public databases, including regional phone books. However, no resident should assume that their landline information is in the system. Cell phone numbers are not preloaded and will need to be entered by the public. The Office of Emergency Services recommends that you register your information into the system to ensure that you are contacted during an emergency.

Messages from CALAVERAS ALERT will have a caller ID number – (209) 754-6676. If received by email messages will have a Sender ID of CALAVERAS ALERT (Office of Emergency Services) and a reply to email address: CCOES@co.calaveras.ca.us.  You may wish to save this contact information in your cell phone as a contact.

Yes. When you are filling out the CALAVERAS ALERT registration form, you can add as many locations as you would like, including your business address.

I have a landline, and it does not work when the power goes out. How will the system be able to contact me?

I have a landline, and it does not work when the power goes out. How will the system be able to contact me?

Make sure you have at least one working corded telephone – and be sure to turn the ringer on. When you register on CALAVERAS ALERT, you can enter multiple landline, cellular phone numbers and email addresses. The system will make continued attempts to alert you via all the methods you choose until one is successful.

Yes. Your information will not be sold or utilized by any other agency. CALAVERAS ALERT will only be used to notify you of emergencies.

What circumstances might prevent a message from being delivered to me?

What circumstances might prevent a message from being delivered to me?

  • If your contact information has changed and you have not updated your information.
  • If you have a landline at your residence, the power is out and you did not register an alternate phone number.
  • If your line is busy for an extended time and your calls do not forward to voicemail or an answering machine.

If you have a privacy manager on your main phone and you did not register an alternate phone number.

Calaveras County OES will be able to see unsuccessful contact attempts and can program CALAVERAS ALERT to begin another round of calls to busy numbers. It is best to have one or more alternate phone numbers and email addresses in your profile.

When you register with CALAVERAS ALERT, you will have the opportunity to put in multiple contact paths (email and phone). CALAVERAS ALERT will go through all of the paths you’ve entered until one is successful. It is important that you enter more than one way to be reached.

What should I do if I receive a Calaveras Alert message?

Read or listen carefully to the entire message. Do not call 911 for further information unless directed to do so or if you need immediate aid from the Police, EMS or Fire. If the message says to take an action, for example, evacuate the area, please follow the guidance provided.  You may also be asked to confirm that you have received the message.  Follow the instructions provided to confirm you received the message.

Will Calaveras Alert leave a message on an answering machine?

Yes, CALAVERAS ALERT will leave a message on a machine or on voicemail.

NIXLE - Community Notification Service

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is a registered contributor to the Nixle® community  notification service. This web-based service, provided by Nixle LLC, is a geographic-based public notification system available free of charge to residents of Calaveras County. You are invited to register by going to www.nixle.com.

Once you are at Nixle.com, simply click on the "Residents Sign Up Now" button to begin your registration. You will be asked for your name, address, e-mail address, and cell phone number. The address is required as the basis for sending messages relevant to your neighborhood. You will also be able to register additional addresses in order to receive alerts based on more than one location. Once registered, you will receive e-mail alerts and text messages from authenticated agencies like ours who serve your community. From within your Nixle account, you always have the option to define what notifications you receive and from whom. You may opt out of receiving messages from any participating agency.
